Our future plans

Published: 25/02/2019

Bay Engineering is a precision engineering company based in Weymouth, Dorset on the Lynch Lane Industrial Estate. Established in 2001 by Steve Balem and Darren Taylor as a management buyout of ESA Precision Engineering, a company which had been trading for over 25 years.

In 2011 we started actioning a strategic 10-year plan of expansion and innovation. We moved into a new, purpose-built factory in 2012 and have since added new machinery, new team members and implemented bespoke production control software to manage our demand.

Since 2012 our investment has brought us growth of 20% year on year.  Whilst the plan has undoubtedly paid off, we still face an increased demand for machined components made to the high standards our customers demand and expect.

This year we are pushing ahead to continue our steady growth. Work is beginning March 2019 to build out an additional 31% flooring space. This will allow us to add a further 6 multi-axis machines to our shop floor.

They will complement our existing modern machines from our preferred machine suppliers, Haas and Mazak. Haas Automation is the largest machine tool builder in the western world and Yamazaki Mazak Corporation, celebrating its centenary this year, is globally renowned for its Japanese build quality.

Production director Steve Balem mentions: “The additional floor space is massive to us. It will allow us to scale up quickly and have additional capacity ready by the end of 2019”.

Managing director Darren Taylor adds: “Our customers have learnt to expect the absolute highest standards from us. It is vital that we can maintain these standards while giving our customers more machining choice and capacity this year”.
